Jaden & Cassandra — An Intimate Tui Hills Wedding

Tui Hills wedding photography — Jaden and Cassandra’s May celebration was one of those wedding days that felt personal from beginning to end. Surrounded by native bush in Auckland’s Waitākere Ranges, they created an intimate celebration filled with thoughtful floral styling, genuine emotion and the people who mattered most to them.

Having previously photographed their engagement session at Mt Eden—the place where Cassandra said yes—it was especially meaningful to return and document the next chapter of their story. As an Auckland wedding photographer, it was a privilege to capture their day through a mixture of candid moments and naturally directed editorial portraits.

The Venue — Tui Hills, Waitākere

Located on Scenic Drive in West Auckland, Tui Hills is surrounded by palms, native ferns and the bush-covered hills of the Waitākere Ranges. The venue feels secluded and immersed in nature while remaining conveniently close to central Auckland.For Jaden and Cassandra, it provided the perfect setting for an intimate wedding. The Kōwhai Glade offered a peaceful outdoor ceremony space, while the surrounding gardens created a beautiful variety of locations for their wedding portraits.The layers of native greenery and filtered natural light make Tui Hills wedding photography feel distinctly New Zealand. Every part of the venue offers a different visual atmosphere without requiring couples to spend a large part of their day travelling between locations.

Getting Ready — The Quiet Before the Celebration

The beginning of a wedding day carries a special kind of anticipation. Before the ceremony begins and the guests arrive, there are quiet conversations, final preparations and small interactions shared with the people closest to the couple.Rather than interrupting these moments, I photographed them as they naturally unfolded. These early images help establish the complete story of the day—the excitement, the nerves and the gradual transition from preparation into celebration.Because Jaden and Cassandra were already comfortable in front of the camera following their engagement session, the photography felt relaxed from the beginning. Nothing needed to be overly staged, allowing their personalities and relationships to guide the photographs.

The Ceremony — Bold Florals in the Kōwhai Glade

Jaden and Cassandra exchanged their vows in Tui Hills’ secluded Kōwhai Glade, surrounded by native greenery and their closest family and friends.The venue’s iconic rotunda was transformed through expressive floral styling. Instead of relying on a traditional aisle-and-arbour arrangement, the florals brought colour, dimension and movement throughout the ceremony space.Cassandra had a clear vision for the styling. Sculptural arrangements and trailing amaranthus added texture and a subtle sense of drama while complementing the deep green surroundings. The result felt romantic and contemporary without losing the relaxed, natural character of Tui Hills.The intimate number of guests made every reaction feel close. Emotional glances, spontaneous laughter and quiet exchanges could be seen throughout the ceremony. These unplanned moments became some of the most meaningful photographs in their wedding gallery.

Portraits — Connection Among the Native Greenery

After the ceremony, we explored the gardens surrounding Tui Hills for Jaden and Cassandra’s portraits.My approach was to combine gentle direction with plenty of room for natural interaction. Some photographs were intentionally composed with an editorial focus on light, form and environment. Others emerged from the moments between poses—walking together, sharing a quiet look or laughing when they briefly forgot about the camera.The palms, fern-lined paths and secluded garden spaces created depth and texture around them. Soft natural light filtered through the surrounding trees, giving the portraits a refined but organic quality.This balance between editorial portraiture and candid storytelling allowed their photographs to feel polished without becoming overly posed. Their connection remained at the centre of every frame.

The Reception — A Celebration Designed Around Togetherness

Jaden and Cassandra carried the intimate feeling of their ceremony into the reception.Rather than sitting separately at a traditional head table, they chose three shared dining tables where the couple, bridal party and guests could sit together. This created a warm, communal atmosphere and allowed conversations to flow naturally throughout the evening.Individual floral arrangements were placed along the tables instead of continuous floral runners. Each arrangement became its own design feature while leaving the tables open and welcoming for guests.It was a thoughtful choice that reflected the heart of their celebration. The reception was not shaped by formality for its own sake, but by a genuine desire to remain close to the people sharing the day with them.
