As a Kumeū wedding photographer, I’m always drawn to weddings that make full use of two very different settings — and Sara and Isaac’s day did exactly that, moving from the historic stillness of St George’s Anglican Church in Epsom to the relaxed, sun-warmed rows of a private Kumeū vineyard. Two locations, two completely different moods, and one very young, very in-love couple tying it all together.
Tucked away on Ranfurly Road in Epsom, St George’s is one of those churches that photographs beautifully no matter the time of day — and it’s no surprise it was recently named one of the Best Wedding Venues in Auckland. Dark timber paneling lines the walls, stained glass windows throw pockets of color across the pews, and the high, exposed roof trusses give the whole space a quiet grandeur. It’s an incredible location for a ceremony — intimate enough to feel personal, but with enough architectural character to anchor every photo.
Before the ceremony, Sara and Isaac found a private moment together in the pews, the church’s warm wood tones wrapping around them like a frame. Later, as Sara walked the aisle with her veil catching the light from the stained glass, the building itself became part of the story — every photo grounded in a setting with real history and presence.
From Epsom, the day moved right across the city to Kumeū — specifically, to a private vineyard belonging to Isaac’s grandfather. This is exactly the kind of location I love shooting as a Kumeū wedding photographer: rolling rows of vines, strawberry fields, open sky, and none of the polish of a commercial event space. It’s raw, real, and full of family history, which makes for photography that feels lived-in rather than staged.
The property gave us a huge range of backdrops across the day — a vintage car parked beneath the trees for arrival portraits, open lawns for the reception itself, and long, quiet rows between the strawberry plants for a walk that turned into one of my favorite images of the whole shoot. Locations like this, tucked into the Kumeū countryside, are part of why I love photographing weddings in this part of Auckland so much.
I always try to let the location do some of the storytelling. A church like St George’s Epsom brings weight, tradition, and quiet emotion. A working Kumeū vineyard brings warmth, informality, and a strong sense of place. Together, they gave Sara and Isaac’s wedding a shape that felt complete — formal where it needed to be, relaxed everywhere else, and never feeling like two mismatched halves of the same day.
For couples planning a wedding across Auckland, pairing a traditional city ceremony venue like St George’s with a private, personal reception location out in Kumeū is such a beautiful way to tell your story through two very different chapters of the same day.
Sara and Isaac’s wedding was a perfect mix of old and new — timeless church tradition paired with the easy, playful love of two people just starting out together, all set against two of the most photogenic locations I’ve worked with this year.
Thank you, Sara and Isaac, for letting me capture the beginning of your story in these beautiful places. Wishing you a lifetime of love, adventure, and many more reasons to laugh together.
